End of the Semester

As the end of the semester looms around the corner, i have had a while now to reflect on what kind of experiences, information, and ideas i will walk away from this class. The main thing that i believe i can take from this course is that there is more out there. There is a far greater well of information that the majority of the world is unaware aware about. As our technologies, communication, and computers become more and more advanced, we are open to fulfill the greatest potential of whatever we want in the history of mankind. If we are able to find a way to control robots simple with our minds, create information sites such as wikis, and bionic attachments that improve the human condition, then what is the problem? I find that the greatest issue behind this great time, is that we are not providing enough awareness about what is going on in the world of innovative technologies. I believe that the future of technology is not in what we create, but how we come together to create more sophisticated and smarter machines and computers, the number of problems we cannot solve, will soon be whittled down to nothing. The future is exciting, and i believe that nothing can stop us, but ourselves.

Did you know?

The world is full of wonderful technologies. Things that were only thought possible in science fiction. There are technologies that give us the opportunity to achieve great things. Thechnology now is adressing the idea of becoming smarter with the human experience. Technologies such as this range from cyborgs, to tweets, to blogs, to wikis, to immersive virtual technologies. These are all technologies that i feel will be an intricate part of everyone's future regardless of age, gender, race, or social status. If everything continues on the path that it is, there will be an enormous shift that is beyond the understanding of human capacity. Here are some ideas that you should think about in order to understand what kind of technological evolution the human race is experiencing.

  • Did you know, that many of today's college majors did not exist 10 years ago?

  • Did you know, today students in college are preparing for jobs that do not even exist, and are learning about technologies that have not been invented yet?

  • Did you know, more 50% of 21-year olds have created content on the web?

  • Did you know, over 70% of 4-year olds have also used a computer?

  • Did you know, the first commercial text message was sent in 1992?

  • Did you know, the number of text messages sent per day exceeds the planet population?

  • Did you know, the amount of technical information is doubling every two years?

  • Did you know, by 2010 it is expected to double every 72 hours?

  • Did you know, predictions are that by the time that children who are 6 years old, born in 2007, a super computer's computation ability will exceed that of the human brain.

What does this all mean? It means that today technology is growing at an exponential rate, and that we are preparing for problems that have not even occurred yet. Technology is becoming faster, better, and easier to access world wide. One problem with this, is that no one knows what is happening because it is not discussed at on a large scale.

I guess the real goal of this last blog is a simple message. "Get out and explore". These are exciting times, and nobody knows what is going on. The human race is peaking around the corner of something so vast, that it is beyond our understanding of what potential we have in the near future. Get out there, see what is coming out, where we are going, and most importantly be aware of what is happening to us as a whole. We are getting smarter, better, and more sophisticated technology. Enjoy, and immerse yourself into a world of technology that has yet to be fully explored!!!

Oops! Wrong understanding of the project

Ok, so I guess that I did not fully understand the concept of the project. When I thought that the original project was to "create" a new technology, I had the whole idea planned out. However, i just now figured out what I want to do! THis is an unreleased technolgoy that has yet to make a splash. However when it does, it will be a tidal wave. The technology is called Xbox360: Natal. This is a motion capturing device that will take playing games to a whole new level. What the technology does is use a camera that scans peoples bodies for motion capture, and even down to facial recognition. This allows for people to not use controllers but actually play as though they were in the game. This is the first technology to work efficiently enough to run smoothly. When this product comes out, it will be a forerunning technology in the gamer expereince. It will definerly be an exciting time for gamers. You can follow this link to watch the video on it now to get a better idea of what to expect from "Natal". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2qlHoxPioM .Enjoy! Wish me luck on my project for Monday!

Poster Project

I have finally decided what exactly i would like to do for my presentation that is due in my emerging tech class. This idea is something that i hope to be innovative, and so new that a rare group of people are the ones who would think of this. My idea happens to be about the brain and dieting. The brain runs basically on electric impulses produced by the brain. These same signals used in the brain and the rest of the body, are carried by the same electric impulses. The idea is that i want to come up with a technology that focuses on the areas of the brain or the impulses that tell the brain that it is eating, tasting a certain food, or is full. I want to do this because it can help people who struggle with diets, and want something that can benefit them in the long run. I believe that this idea will be painless and most importantly, safe. If i can get enough of this idea into a plausible idea, i would also consider taking it to a company to pitch or research! Wish me good luck, because i will need it as i present my poster for those who come to see my classes ideas this upcoming week!!

8 weird ways to save the world

Today, i decided to scope out any new and weird news that is happening around the world. Therefore, i decided that checking out the tech pages at CNN.com was worth a look. Not suprised, i saw an article called 8 weird ways to save the Earth. This article was fascinating, because right off hand you are viewing a ship at see with 4 huge steam stacks that are designed for a greener function as opposed to burning fossil fuels. After reading this article, it reminded me of the class lecture that i listened in on that regarded new technologies that are changing the world. Granted most of the lecture was about cybernetic interfacing with biological subjects, but the idea of changing and advancing towards a new frontier of science and technology peaked my interest. This article goes on to demonstrate technologies in developement to help the world "go green" such as: space frisbee deflectors, carbon sucking machines, and ocean seedings. These are all very cool idea that are being developed, and i hope to see more ideas such as these become real in the near future.

This planet needs to go green. I believe that the root of all the problems come from money glutton buisness men who seek to gain a cheap profit from any source of income they can tap. The earth is suffering as a result of this. Change is needed. Change will come.

Emerging Tech: Future Tech, GO!

Today we just got back our feedback in class regarding our sales pitch of the technology that we came up with. This was some what gratifying as it showed us what it means to do something in a professional manner. We worked hard, and tried our best in presenting this sort of concept. The Nine-To-Five-Spot, seemed to be a very popular idea, although our scores were lower because of our poor presentation regarding use of notecards and "ums". I think that we could have definetly done better if we could have refined our transitions better.

On another note, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. This is a terminal cancer that was once thought cured for him 25 years ago. He believes that this is still curable, and that he can be the disease according to his sister. You can read about this at CNN's website here:

Scratch that

Apparently my school drained mind has lost its self That last post was # 5. Sorry to mislead all of you.... and by all i mean my TA. Sorry, i just dont know anyone else who would be interested in reading about my life. Here is an interesting subject. I am currently playing intramural volleyball. I started out the semester as the worst player on the team. Now, 3 weeks into the season.... im the best! Best on defense, best at serving, and best at passing. If it werent for me, the team would crash and burn. Heres to rocking out VIP style. I love showing people who is the best when they doubt. Now if only i could manage to set that kind of trend with crew..... oh you didnt hear? I made the worst boat on the team, even though im 8th fastest of 40. Makes sense right? RIGHT.

End in sight?

Ok, so here is my 6th blog. HOORAY! i am a little stressed out. I have done 3 powerpoint projects, studied for a huge exam, and now concluded with this blog all in one weekend. Is the end of the semester in sight? I certainly hope it is. I cant handle getting up early to do home work, go to class, go to practice, study, and do crappy in school anymore. I want it to be christmas break now! I want to just relax and enjoy myself for once! Will it happen? I dont know. I just want to do well in school first, and have fun second. I also hate how fast/ slow this semester is going. I say that becuase i know that sounds confusing. This semester school wise is flying by, but at the same time its taking forever! Its not even Halloween yet. BLEH! Screw christmas break, i guess ill even settle for THANKSGIVING!!!

Fall Break

This weekend has been a terribly hard weekend to manage. According to most of the people at Purdue, fall break is a time of relaxation and a chance to get back on track with school. I think that someone forgot to give Purdue Crew the memo, as i spent the entire weekend in Rockford, Illinois and 9 hours cleaning up Feast of the Hunters Moon. I had no chance to relax, and no time to do extra studying that i had intended to. Thank you Purdue Crew for really stadning behind your "academics come first" policy, as it really helped me this weekend to get ahead. Once again i lost more and more faith in what you intended to push me to be.

Brothers

My brothers annoy the hell out of me. Granted yes i love them to death, but what gives them the right to treat me the way that they do? Being the youngest of three, i know full and well how the pecking order pans out. However this is getting old. I am a grown man, and still my brothers dont treat me with respect, dignity, or common decency. I hate how my life matters nil to theirs. Too much to explain in a mere blog, but recent events have given me a stern topic to blog about. If i could get my brothers to read this, i would simply write an entry titled GROW UP A**HOLES!

Purdue Rowing

Today has been an especially hard day. Being on the crew team here at Purdue, I am finding myself struggling to manage my life according to my coaches expectations. I need to find a balance between crew, school, and my girlfriend. I find that my biggest battle lies with getting my work done properly with school. I try and achieve small goals, but fatigue and procrastination are getting the best of me. I am going to work harder and do what i need to in order to graduate in December! WISH ME LUCK!!!
